Free Massachusetts CDL Air Brakes Test 2025

Air brakes are a game-changer for commercial drivers, unlocking income potential from a much longer list of companies. If the Massachusetts RMV CDL Air Brakes Knowledge Test is not passed, your CDL will include the restriction “L,” preventing you from operating commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) with air brakes. Failing the air brakes test in Massachusetts results in a one-day waiting period and a fee should you decide to retake the test. We have designed our Massachusetts RMV CDL Air Brakes Practice Tests to take the stress out of preparations.

Securing a CDL without an air brake restriction is essential because most semi-trucks, tractor-trailers, and commercial buses rely on air brakes for safe navigation. The coastal plains, the rolling hills, and the Berkshires in the west provide diverse challenges requiring air brake-qualified drivers. Congested urban areas (like Boston, Springfield, and Worcester) demand powerful, reliable braking, and New England winters add snow, ice, and sleet to the challenge. Key transportation routes include I-90 (Massachusetts Turnpike, an east-west route linking Boston to New York State), I-93 (running north-south, connecting Boston to New Hampshire), I-95 (regional and long-haul freight along the East Coast), and US-7 (servicing western Massachusetts). The restriction “L” eliminates these job opportunities.

The Bay State relies on drivers with the air brake qualification in key industries, including biotechnology, higher education, manufacturing, and tourism. Major companies requiring this qualification include General Electric (Lynn) and Raytheon (Waltham) in the manufacturing industry, as well as XPO Logistics and FedEx Freight in the logistics sector. Peter Pan Bus Lines (Springfield) and Yankee Line (Boston) are major tourism and charter bus companies. Additionally, Massachusetts’s school districts employ thousands of air brake-qualified drivers for their full-size buses. The “L” restriction disqualifies you from these jobs.

Our CDL Air Brakes Practice Tests cover all essential knowledge for the official RMV Air Brakes Knowledge Test. You’ll learn information that will also be useful as you practice to pass your skills test. The written Air Brakes knowledge test features multiple-choice questions based on the state’s CDL manual (Massachusetts CDL Handbook 2025) and requires a score of at least 80% to pass.

Our Practice Tests are scientifically designed to speed the learning process. By mimicking the official knowledge test and offering immediate feedback on all responses, these tests ensure you’ll pass the knowledge test on your first attempt.
